Fee Remissions - Non-Resident

Non-resident remissions subject to UWS ceilings (Summer, Fall, UWinterim and Spring)

A.

Graduate student appointment remissions are awarded by each Dean or an appointed representative.  Graduate students qualify for a non-resident tuition remission if they meet the following criteria.

 

1.

Employed by UWM as teaching, research, or project assistants and have an appointment equal to at least 33% of a full time equivalent. Must be payrolled through the University.

 

2.

Recipient of a fellowship.  Eligible for a non-resident tuition remission if the amount of the fellowship is equivalent to the standard full-time graduate tuition and fees.

 

 

a.

Must be payrolled through the University.

 

 

b.

Fellows and trainees appointed to extramural support programs who received an institutional allowance, or an amount for tuition and fees are not entitled to this remission.

 

3.

Assessed graduate level tuition.

 

4.

Must maintain enrollment level of at least the minimum credit level as outlined in the Graduate Assistant manuals.

 

5.

Continuation of a non-resident tuition remission requires maintaining the minimum credit completion requirement of the appointment, as established by the Graduate School.

 

6.

Non-resident remissions for summer may be granted to continuing teaching assistants and project assistants without minimum registration provided they were granted remissions the preceding semester.

 

 

a.

Student must contact the department that granted the tuition remission to process the fee remission.

 

 

b.

Department must verify that the student received a remission in the preceding semester.

c. The student must be assessed at the graduate level.

B.

Non-resident athletic remissions are awarded by the Department of Athletics.

 

1.

May be granted as a full remission of non-resident tuition.

 

2.

The maximum number of scholarships ceiling is limited by the Chancellor.

3. UWM Administration restricts the scholarship to a level where, in conjunction with other categories, the total dollar ceiling is not exceeded. See ASM 2.5.1.

C.

2% Regents Equity Non-resident Tuition Remissions are awarded by the UWM Non-resident Tuition Appeals Committee.

 

1.

Given to non-resident students who are deserving of relief from the assessment of non-resident tuition because of extraordinary circumstances.

 

2.

The aggregate amount of the remissions shall not exceed an amount equal to full remissions for 2% of the number of non-resident students registered in the preceding year.

3. UWM Administration restricts this category to a level where, in conjunction with the other categories, the total dollar ceiling is not exceeded. See ASM 2.5.1

D.

8% Regents Non-resident Tuition Remissions are awarded by the Schools and Colleges.

 

1.

May be granted to a number nonresident students who are needy and worthy based upon: 

a. suitable tests, examinations or scholastic records.
b. continued high standards of scholastic attainment.

 

2.

The aggregate amount of these remissions shall not exceed an amount equal to full remissions for 8% of the number of non-resident students registered in the preceding year.

 

3.

UWM Administration restricts this category to a level where, in conjunction with other categories, the total dollar ceiling is not exceeded. See ASM 2.5.1

E.

Foreign Student Remissions are awarded by the School and Colleges..

 

1.

Worthy and needy foreign students and students who are United States citizens, but whose residence is outside the United States are eligible.

 

2.

In any academic year the number may not exceed 2% of the total full-time enrollment of students at UWM during the preceding academic year.

 

3.

UWM Administration restricts this category to a level where, in conjunction with other categories, the total dollar ceiling is not exceeded. See ASM 2.5.1
