A new unclassified employee may request a salary advance to cover living expenses in the first month of employment at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. |

A. |
The advances may be up to 35% of one month's gross pay. |

B. |
A Salary Advance Request and Payroll Deduction Form
must be filled out and signed by the employee. This form can be downloaded at
the BFS Online Forms website. |

II. |
Responsibilities of the Dean, Division Head or Designee |

A. |
Calculate the maximum allowable advance, and verify that the amount requested does not exceed 35% of the month's gross pay. |

B. |
Complete the bottom of the form. |
| |
C. |
Approve the Salary Advance Form. |
| |
D. |
Forward the Salary Advance Form to the Payroll Office, Engelmann 170. |

III. |
A Salary Advance check must be picked up in person from the Payroll Office. |

IV. |
Repayment of the salary advance will be by payroll deduction from the employee's first paycheck. |

A. |
If sufficient salary, net of all mandatory deductions, is not available to repay the advance from the first pay check, the maximum amount possible will be deducted for repayment and will continue to be deducted from subsequent paychecks until the salary advance is repaid. |

B. |
In the event the employee terminates employment from the University prior to repayment of the entire advance, the unpaid balance is immediately due and payable to the University. |
